How ACE Works
ACE brings teaching and manuscript work together. Each session gives writers the opportunity to explore an element of craft, try it on the page, and then bring that thinking back to their own work in progress.
Craft Teaching
Focused teaching explores specific elements of craft and gives writers practical ways to strengthen their work.
Writing Exercises
Guided writing exercises create space to experiment, generate new material, and put craft ideas into practice.
Manuscript Review
Writers receive focused attention on work in progress, with discussion centred on craft, revision, and the choices shaping the manuscript.
Guest Authors
Guest authors bring additional perspectives on craft, process, publication, and the writing life.
The Structure
ACE meets once a month for eight months. Each 2½-hour session combines craft teaching, writing exercises, manuscript review, and discussion.
Craft & Exercises
Each session includes focused craft teaching and writing exercises designed to put ideas into practice and generate new possibilities on the page.
Full Reviews
Two writers receive a focused manuscript review during each session, with up to 10 double-spaced pages considered for each review.
In-Session Reads
Other writers may bring up to 5 double-spaced pages to read aloud during the session, followed by focused discussion and feedback.
Guest Authors
Two guest-author sessions are included during the eight-month program, bringing additional perspectives on craft, process, publication, and the writing life.

Who ACE Is For
ACE is for writers who want to keep developing their craft while actively working on a manuscript or other writing project. It offers a balance of instruction, experimentation, discussion, and feedback — with time to learn something new and then bring it back to the work on the page.
