L ectures & Workshops offer focused opportunities to explore the craft of writing, encounter new ideas, and take practical approaches back to the page. Each session centres on a particular aspect of writing and creates room for teaching, examples, conversation, and discovery.
How Lectures & Workshops Work
Each lecture or workshop focuses on a particular aspect of writing craft. The aim is to look closely at how something works on the page, explore it through examples and conversation, and leave with practical ideas you can bring back to your own writing.
Focused Craft
Each session explores one clear element of craft, allowing time to go deeper rather than trying to cover everything at once.
Examples
Examples from writing and storytelling help illuminate how particular techniques work and why they matter.
Conversation
There is room for questions, discussion, and the exchange of ideas rather than a lecture that simply moves in one direction.
Back to the Page
The goal is always practical: to leave with a clearer understanding of craft and new possibilities for your own writing.
The Format
Lectures & Workshops are stand-alone sessions, so writers can choose the topics that interest them most. Each offering is designed around the subject being explored, with enough time for thoughtful teaching, examples, discussion, and practical application.
Flexible Format
Session length varies depending on the offering. The length and format of each lecture or workshop are listed when registration opens.
Live on Zoom
Join from wherever you are and take part in the conversation in real time.
One Focus
Each offering centres on a particular aspect of writing or craft, allowing room for focused exploration.
Stand-Alone
There is no long-term commitment. Writers may register for the individual lectures and workshops that speak to their interests and their work.

Who Lectures & Workshops Are For
Lectures & Workshops are for writers at different stages of their practice who want to deepen their understanding of craft, explore new approaches, and return to their own work with fresh ideas.
Come curious. Leave with something new to think about, experiment with, and bring back to the page.
LECTURE SERIES
The Craft of Silence
How what is unsaid can deepen a scene.
Silence is rarely empty. What a character does not say, the pause before an answer, or the smallest sound in an otherwise quiet room can change the emotional weight of a scene.

In The Craft of Silence, we’ll look at how writers can use silence deliberately to create tension, atmosphere, subtext and meaning — and how saying less can sometimes make the writing more powerful.
