How Writing Raum Works
Writing Raum is built around the manuscript. Writers bring work in progress to a small, committed group where there is time for close attention, meaningful discussion, and thoughtful feedback.
Small Group
A focused studio environment where every writer and every manuscript has room to be heard.
Manuscript Review
Close reading and discussion centred on what the manuscript is doing, where it is going, and how it can become stronger.
Advanced Craft
Craft conversations grow naturally from the work — character, structure, voice, scene, pacing, revision, and more.
Guest Authors
Selected guest authors bring additional perspectives on craft, process, publication, and the writing life.
The Structure
Writing Raum meets weekly for seven weeks. Each three-hour session centres on the manuscripts in the room, combining close review, shorter in-session reads, and craft discussion.
Full Review
One writer receives a focused manuscript review. Up to 10 double-spaced pages are submitted at least 48 hours before the session so the group has time to read closely. Written feedback is emailed back following the review.
In-Session Reads
For shorter reads, writers may bring up to 5 double-spaced pages to read aloud during the session, followed by focused discussion and feedback.
Craft & Discussion
There is no fixed curriculum. Craft conversations grow directly from the manuscripts — structure, character, scene, dialogue, point of view, pacing, revision, and the choices shaping the work.
Guest Authors
Selected guest-author sessions bring additional perspectives on craft, process, publication, and the writing life.

Who Writing Raum Is For
Writing Raum is for writers who already have a manuscript underway and want sustained, thoughtful attention on the work. It is designed for writers ready to engage seriously with revision, manuscript discussion, and the craft decisions that shape a longer work.
Come ready to read closely, discuss generously, revise deeply, and keep moving the manuscript toward what it wants to become.
New writers: Admission is by application. Please be prepared to submit a writing sample of up to 5,000 words.
